This seems familiar...

Which is what the cream puff seller must have thought when she saw me, coz she was grinning widely. You see about 1 week ago, laden with shopping bags, I told her, One please.... and fumbled awkwardly for my wallet amidst the sea of bags.

It so happens the same thing happened today. I think the seller must have recognised me, this time also heavily laden with bags and digging here and there in my handbag for my wallet.

Anyway, having done with buying the cream puff, I tried to find my way to the car park but got slightly disoriented. It was really no joke going up and down the shopping mall searching for the exit coz those bags were heavy! By the time I made it to the car and took off, I realised I couldnt lift the cream puff to my mouth because my entire left arm had gone numb from carrying all the bags.

More dejaavu-ness

1. I also bought big bags of pet items last week
2. I also ate the cream puff in the car
3. I was also shopping for birthday presents last week
4. I wished I had put my pet items into the car first after I bought them.

My Mid Autum Festival

Ok I know this post is like waaay outdated, but anyway I will just blog it, since I already planned to do so since last month.

Now way back when I was small, I think around 10? We used to celebrate the mooncake festival at our friends' houses, going around with the lanterns and all, then eating, playing games, candles and fireworks...

Well those were the days lar...as we grew up we stopped doing all these la, the gov banned the fireworks and playing with lanterns was getting so childish and all.

Anyway, thanks to some self confessed peter pans, last year I did celebrate mid autumn festival, as well as this year.


We had mooncakes... however not just any mooncake but SAMBAL mooncake and a few other interesting ones. The taste was pretty unique but not bad at all.


We arranged candles into patterns just like we did when we were kids. Can you tell what this is supposed to be?

After that, being the creative people we are, we melted down the candles to make art!

My name means WHAT?

A souvenier from China from YS. Its supposed to be the interpretation of my name or something. When I took i t out of the box, I was rather dumbfounded.




Uh... A fat man standing watch outside, while a thin man is roasted over a fire in a small hut... next to a forest of dead trees with something that looks like the eye of sauron staring....


Actually the person drawing it did explain why it was drawn like that and all, unfortunately YS was not listening because he was distracted by being late.




Well I felt slightly better when I saw the picture of the stall. At least most of the drawings of names look rather weird as well and not just mine...haha

I am not sick, I can do it!

No these are not my words, but the words of our Hero Alvin.

Having spent practically the whole day at the "One in a million" audition, he was poofed at dinnertime but being the hero that he is, he turned up for our dinner appointment. We decided to go to the tomyam shop. On the way there in CY's car, Alvin was teasing me about the time I puked twice during our redang trip ferry ride. Anyway, when we reached the shop.......

Alvin : I want seafood tomyam, with ADDED CHICKEN.
Me: Wah... can finish or not.
Alvin: Of course, I'm hungry!

5 minutes later
Alvin: I'm so dead tired. *Continues eating

10 minutes later
Alvin: I'm so dead tired. *Continues eating

15 minutes later
Alvin: I'm so dead tired. *Stares blankly at food

Me: Maybe u should drink some 100 plus
Alvin: Good idea,
Alvin : Boss, one 100 plus!

Alvin chugs down some 100 plus in 1 gulp

Alvin: Ah... thats better * Continues eating

20 minutes later
Alvin: I'm so dead tired. Why am I so tired? *Stares at food
Me: You sick ar?
Alvin: No, I'm not sick, just tired..
CY: You don't look so good, somemore order so much but can't finish half
Me: Later the aunty thinks her food something wrong

25 minutes and another "Why am I so tired" X3 from Alvin later
Alvin:.........
CY: Wah, Alvin no energy to talk adi
Me: Ya wo....
Alvin: Want...go..back.....
CY: Okok, faster eat, faster eat!
Me: I'm eating as fast as I can!

Me: Ok, done! Lets go
CY: Er Alvin, u stay here and wait lar, I'll bring the car
Alvin: Its OK, I CAN do it

We walk... and walk... then both of us turn our heads so look at Alvin

Me: Eh, wheres Alvin?
Cy: EH? Disappear adi one...

CY thought he fainted, I thought he was playing a trick on us. We finally saw him emerging from behind a car, only to dash back behind it again. Actually what really happened was he was er..busy leaving his food at the side of the road.

CY: Oh gosh...you stay here with him, I'll go get the car.
Me: Ok...

Alvin: Wait, I feel all better already! I can walk myself.
Me: Er... u sure ar..
Alvin: yaya, lets go

We made it halfway, right till the road divider, when Alvin suddenly turned pale and started down at the drain.

Me: (Oh boy, there he goes again.) Lets just wait for CY's car here.
Alvin: (Deep breaths) "Its ok, I can do it"
Alvin continues to plod on like one of resident evil's zombies

Well we finally made it back to the house, where Alvin took a rest before getting packed home in CY's car.

Well, we were not really being mean, only those of you who know Alvin will understand why we found all these so funny. I mean.. apparently the man of steel got defeated by gas!

左右不分 (Can't differentiate between left and right)

Yesterday i decided to go and meet up with my friends in Sunway, despite the fact that I would be driving alone and my ahem... usual driver was overseas and therefore uncontactable. So, armed with a road map and instructions on how to get there, I set off.


Everything was fine until the part that I was supposed to " turn left at the 3 tier bridge" I thought I was supposed to go up the bridge then only take the left lane. Whoops...I ended up going pass the turning to Bandar Sunway. The only thing I could do was turn into Subang jaya and find a popular landmark. Ah... SJMC hospital... ok, I parked my car and called my friend, who gave me directions to get to Sunway from there. Didn't seem too hard... Looks like I would reach in another 5 minutes or so.

Ok, I reached Sunway, the giant lion from Sunway Piramid on my right. Hm... where to turn in? I called my friend again and that's where the left and right problem started.


Friend: Keep 左
Me: ok

Continues driving

Me: er on the right isn't it?
Friend: Har, nono, its 左... Left ar
Me: Oops.... pass adi

Friend: Aiya u pass adi ar, ok never mind, in front got U turn
Me: ok
Friend: ok, u go straight ar, then bla bla bla
Me: okok



Friend: Ok later u keep 左, then ar u turn bla bla
Me: Hmm..going down a tunnel liao wo
Friend, Har, tunnel is on the 右 lar
Me: Oops..... go down adi liao wo
Friend: Aiyoyoo... wait i pass the phone to Jack arr

Well, I ended up going pass the toll , going all the way toward PJ old town, then going past the toll again. I actually stopped int he middle of the roads divider in order to confirm the directions. That was when my friend accidentally gave me the wrong directions by asking me to take the leftmost lane. I ended up back on the federal where I went wrong in the first place. Finally I made it to Sunway, and I made one last call.


Me: ok I think I'm nearby already. Do I U turn here? The signboard says bla bla bla
Friend: Ei it does ar...hmm.....
Me:......
Friend: Lemme pass the phone to Jack again.

Jack: What do you seee around you?
Me: Uh... Traffic Light, thats all, nothing else
Jack: Errrr
Me: The sign board says go straight is bla bla, turn right is bla bla, U turn is bla bla
Jack: Err....
Me: aiya the traffic light green adi I just turn lar
Me: Oh, its the right way adi, ok thanks bye bye!

Later on my friend was telling me


Friend: Aiya you know lar, since we all so familiar with that road we don't bother to remember what the signboard says adi, so a bit hard to give directions.
Me: Haha ic
Friend: Actually I already realised you can't tell 左右, so all of us were telling Jack, Say left and right! Not 左右!
Me: He kept saying 左右 lar
Friend: Yalor..I think he is not used to saying Left and right la
Me: aih....



On the way home, I actually went the opposite direction.... in a panic i did the most horrible illegal U turn i have ever done in my life. At that point, I was almost ready to go over the divider if I had to, because if I didn't..It looked like I would be heading to Petaling Jaya.... and that was NOT a good thing at 9.30 p.m. Thank God my car is small.....


On another note, my friend's fav hammy and my potential future hammy(right). Cuteness!

Laws and observations

That day I was browsing through a website sent by YSLim. It was a compilation of Murphy's Laws and other observations. I noticed that some of them really apply in our lives.

1. If anything can go wrong, it will
The most well known Murphy's law. All the other laws are born from this.

2. Great ideas are never remembered and dumb statements are never forgotten.
This seems to happen all the time. Chicken with no hands anyone?

3. Being dead right, won't make you any less dead.
Very applicable at work, when something under your charge screws up although it wasn't your fault.

4.Where patience fails, force prevails.
Just ask any mum how this law applies.

5. If anything can go wrong, it will happen to the crankiest person.
Like where a certain someone's order always arrives last or gets lost in kitchen land

6. Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral or fattening.
Pirated games, chocolate cakes...... sigh

7.The harder you work the more people there will be to claim credit except when it backfires.
Another law that applies often in the workplace. I can see some of you nodding your heads already.

Observation on Education:
"We can give you a diploma, but we can't give you a brain."
That certainly explains the many diploma/degree holding idiots in the workplace(hopefully I'm not classified as one of them)

Observation on Intelligence:
The difference between Stupidity and Genius is that Genius has its limits.
People doing IT phone support will testify to the accuracy of this observation. ( Reminds me of a certain someone who mistook the power button for the floppy eject button )

Observation on Rules:
It takes forever to learn the rules and once you've learned them they change again.
Its like how we spend the whole year learning up some software then a new version comes out. I think the same applies to law.

Observation on doing things:
You will find an easy way to do it, after you've finished doing it.
Happens often in Microsoft word, programming, household chores and also in the kitchen.

Mall Adventure

Last Friday I decided to go to One Utama. Usually I don't go shopping alone, in fact I think this was my fist time shopping alone in a mall. My initial objective was to get my friends present from the bookstore at Popular, ends up this was my journey through that gigantic mall.



ok its by no means a nice illustration. I suck at using Adobe Illustrator. Even something simple like drawing arrows took me dunno how long. The Floor plan of coz, was taken from One Utamas website.

A - I parked here
B - Went to buy Dunkin Donuts(my dinner) sambil jalan , sambil makan
C - Went up to 2nd floor because thats where Popular is.
D - Walked all the way to D before seeing the 'You Are Here' floor plan and realising I'm walking the wrong way. Walked back to C
E - Made it to popular at last...unfortunately after searching high and low I coulnd't find the book I wanted. Darn....
F- From E I walked back through C, and D...finally arriving at F where MPH is. Took me quite some time to find the book, which there were only 2 copies left. Yay!
G - Decided to take a look at Parkson.
H - Walked around looking at the clothes and stuff
I - Exited Parkson here and sat down for a while at the sofa area listening to the musician playing the piano.
J - I realised I was a little lost at this point. Wanted to cross over to the other side but there was no link. The floor plan only showed the current floor so I was kinda blur how to get to the other side.
K - Ok, at least upstairs got link to go back to the other side.
L - Was trying to find my way to Jusco. Oh, its one more floor down. Thought of going to the home center as well but decided against it because I was too tired.
M - Bought some stuff at Jusco..wanted tob uy more but my arms were already breaking. Yet another cons to shopping alone, cannot distribute the load...haha
N - Stopped at Pets Wonderland for a quick look
A - Back to the car park with cars trailing behind me to get my space. Sigh...cant even rest a while in the car coz the people were waiting for me to leave.

Thus ended my 1st venture into shopping alone. It really wasn't that bad, haha..but I was dead tired.

I was surfing the net when this quote caught my eye. At first glance it seems like a usual funny quote, something the lazy Homer would say.... but then it also struck me how true this quote was. Sometimes we just rather not try than to do our best and end up disappointed.


The counter quote might be something like, its ok if you failed, at least you tried your best, but sometimes I feel, it hurts even more to fail because you have tried your best. If that really was your best effort, it just simply meant you were not good enough.

I know I hate it when people try to console my failures with " At least you have done your best". That was I can't even comfort myself with something like "I didn't score well in the exam because I didn't study la." It just seems to show that even my best efforts suck.

Somehow all this reminds me of college. We did try our best sometimes, doing assignments and all, slaving till the wee hours of the morning, but the outcome is still bad. Still a C or B laughing in the face of all our hard work and effort. Maybe it has affected me so that I rarely ever try my best at anything anymore... hehe.... well thats except in playing certain computer or P/S games la :p

Another random fact... Its my 100th blog post, and its a tag! Lame la...hahahaha

I'm not Dory, yay!

Recently I have been getting worried. I can't remember if I have closed the auto gate after I drive away from home, and I put down my handphone 1 moment only to forget where I left it the next. I even go upstairs to get something and forget what I was doing once I reach the top. However all these are common occurrences in a normal human's life right?

Well I thought so too, until the day I was hunting for pants in my closet. I found a pair of 3 quarter pants buried under a few other pants. Googles brand somemore. It was my size, and it fit very well. The only problem was I don't have any memory whatsoever of acquiring said pants. Well, I put it on and went off to work(casual Friday). By the end of the day I was dead certain that it was my first time wearing those pants. Why on earth would I buy pants and not wear them if they fit properly?

When I got home, my sister was like, oh... where did you buy those pants? I want to get pants like that too. I was like, that's the problem, I can't remember...do you recall me buying this pair of pants? Sis : No ler.... Hmm... I left it as the most extreme case of poor memory on my part and went on with life.

Today, which is like months after that incident, I wore the pants again. My friend CY saw me and said, oh, you are wearing that pants! I was like huh... you recognise the pants?

CY: Neh... you forgot adi ar, your sister bought it for you one.
Me: Blank stare
CY: We bought it together ma, the same pants, I ask your sis to call you and ask you want or not..
Me: OHHHHHH!

Wow, suddenly I had the feeling of a long lost memory rushing back into my head. I was enlightened and felt like the greatest mystery of my life that had been bugging me for months had been solved at last. I don't recall the pants because I didn't buy them myself, and I probably have not seen them since the day my sister bought them, because we usually put our new clothing to wash right after we get home. My mum must have placed it in my cupboard, and everyone forgot about the existence of that pants.
With that enlightenment came another question.

"Eh, then why can't my sister remember the pants?" We questioned her.

Me: Eh, you bought these pants for me lar.
Sis: blank stare
CY: NEh, you remember or not, that day we went shopping and bla bla yada yada
Sis: Har got meh....
CY: Got laar...
Sis..... you mean I PAID for her pants?
Us:................

This just shows the main thing my sister is concerned about. :p


Me: No lar, you just helped me to buy, I paid you back later.
CY: Elaborates somemore ont he events of that day
Sis: Ohhhhh yaya I remember.
Me: What lar you, somemore you ask me where I bought that pants. Why didnt you get a pair for yourself?
Sis: oh I think that time dont have my size

Well, so the matter has been cleared up. Its my sister that suferring from memory loss! wahahahahaaha.... well actually all of us are probably equally forgetful. Sigh... but at least I'm not suffering from early Alzheimer's.

A vicious cycle

2 days ago, I slept rather late because I was reading a comic online and it was sooooo slow in loading, but I really wanted to finish reading it. The next day I brought to work one of the Ipoh Old town Hazelnut flavour White Coffee sticks that my sis bought from Ipoh. I made a cup of coffee with 80% of the powder in that packet and drank it.

Wow it really works, on the way home I was so alert. However I felt rather tense, the feeling intensified when I was in the jam, tension betul.... I felt like screaming at the crawling cars. Darn, too muhc caffiene....

When I got home, I asked my sis about the coffee, she was like...what time did you drink it? I said... 3 something pm. She said, die la you, tonight no need to sleep adi, that stuff is very potent.

True enough, it was 2.30 am before I could sfinally nod off. The next day I was zombified... I wanted to drink coffee, but I was afraid I wont be able to sleep later on. On the way back home I fell asleep at the wheel a few times. Dang......... too dangerous adi. Apparently the caffiene lingered on to the 2nd day, because although I was sleeping driving home, I didnt feel sleepy that night until quite late.

Today I'm not taking any chances. I shall drink a little bit of coffee before driving home, just a little...... hopefully I dont suffer from insomnia again tonight.

Nowadays education is all hyped up. Tuition, music, art and even yoga classes for tiny little kids. Even babies in the womb are not spared, with beethoven music played to them. DHA enhanced drinks, vitamins and so on are dished out to the kids, all in the hopes that they would grow up brilliant.

When I was young, I had a pretty normal childhood. No Mozart , Mental Maths or Montessary learning system, just sesame street, nursery rhymes and Peter & Jane books. I attended piano class for 1 month before I decided I hated it. Even so, many people remarked that I was smart. As my dad put it, sometimes too smart for the comfort of the adults.

Example:

Mum: Eat your flu medicine.
Me: Mum, I read that flu medicine does not actually cure flu but suppreses the symptoms only.
Mum: Aiya, just eat it la, it will make you feel better.
Me: In the long run it can cause damage to our immune system.
Mum: ......

Grandma: I made the rhino horn drink, drink it, its expensive and very good.
Me: Its useless
Grandma: People have been drinking that for centuries!
Me: They are wrong, National Geographic said rhino horn is made out of the same stuff as our fingernails.
Grandma: uh.....
Me: Rhinos face extiction because of those stupid people. You just killed a rhino by drinking this. I refuse to contribute to the extinction of rhinos!
Grandma: ....

Dad: Why are you so lazy, faster do your homework lah, its almost bedtime adi.
Me: You know , that's not the proper way to speak to kids, I read that positive reinforcement is the correct way. You should have said, it would make Daddy happy if you did your homework now. Saying that I am lazy might give a negative impact to me. The more you say a child is lazy, the more they will make that statement true.
Dad: I'm getting the cane now.
Me: OKOK I'm going to do it now.... but you should know that using force is not the right way to....
Dad:*Glares
Me: *Shuts up

These are real examples of how I used to converse with my parents. I guess it comes with reading and watching tv, back then I think i was like 9 - 12. Now with all the brain stimulating activities kids get these days, they might reason with you that way as early as age 5. You sure you want that?


Anyway, perhaps due to the lack of brain stimulation or DHA or whatever, I think more or less my brain is deteriorating as I get older. Just look.

What can I say? Maybe DHA enchanced formula and Choppin for babies is important after all. I guess I needed it.

Time, a matter of perception

That day my mum and aunt were discussing an incident reported in the newspaper.

Aunt: Neh, an old lady was involved, 51 or 52 years old.
Mum: Oi, what old lady, I'm also 52 ok.
Aunt: Aiya... that lady in the newspaper looks old ma. You look young so you are not an old lady.
Mum: -_-

Which reminds me, sometimes age is all about perspective. For example when we were young, a popular thing we liked to speculate about is what age we would get married. I think for girls in primary school during my time, the so called "ideal age"to get married was 22 - 24. Perhaps that time we based our fancies on novels, tv shows or our parents. We even tried to be realistic. ( Aiya, get married at 16 like the girl in that story too young la, we have not finished secondary school yet. at least age 22 la...)

Of course as we grew older,the ideal age had increased a little. (Hmm, 24 - 26 years old better la) Well with tertiary education and all, suddenly we find ourselves 22 years old and still in college. In no time at all , we are already 24 and in our 1st job. Suddenly the idea of marriage at this is rather laughable. I mean like, perhaps we dont even have enough money left over at the end of the month. We are not ready. We have not travelled half as many places as we wanted to, nor done the things we had always wanted to do. Where is the ideal guy/ girl that is to be our life partner? Suddenly time seems to be running short. Days fly by, every Monday seems to loom ahead in a split second, every year seems to end in moments.




I read somewhere that as we get older, time passes faster and faster. Actually its only logical that its perceived that way. When you are 5, even wating the 2 hours for your tv show to start is an eternity. When you are 50, whats another 2 days? Well think about it this way. For a 5 year old, 1 year is equivalent to 1/5 or 10% of his life. For a 50 year old, 1 year is 1/50 or 0.02% of his life. So I guess the older we get, the faster time leaves us behind.

Anither sighable fact is how we watched cartoons featuring heroes and heroines our age or older, say 14 or 15 years old. Now its like, mi gosh, I am almost 10 years older than Sailormoon already. Maybe one day I'll suddenly realise that I'm older than Spiderman, Superman or every other superhero there is.

Wait I'm starting to ramble adi... hahaha... Another sign of getting old! GAH !

Redang Trip Part 3 ~ Final

Oh gosh, I'm so outdated with this last post, better wrap it up fast before any more months go by, haha.

When you travel anywhere with a large group, theres bound to be some funny stuff
that happens during the trip.


At Kuala Terengganu after breakfast:

WI: look at that chicken!
A: yea?
WI: how come it has no hands?
A: .......
A: So, what kind of hands you expect to see, like T rex that type ar?
(*imitates T Rex)

WI: Uh, ya hor..hehehe....nevermind, just forget about it
A: (loudly) WI just asked why the chicken no HANDS!
WI: OI OI, dont tell lar....

Well, he told everyone anyway, hahahaha..including me. Then it was time to board
the bus again.


Dad: (doing head count as we board) 33, 34...
Me: Dad, tell u something funny. WI asked us y the chicken over there no hands.
Dad: ...... I think I just lost count.
Me: Ooops...hahaha

1. Pack until like illegal immigrants. The downside of super peak season.
2. No guesses as to why we were seasick.
3. Feeding the voracious fish at the marine park. They are scary I tell you, especially the bigger ones. Wish I had more pics but most of it was spent snorkeling at the reef, and we don't have a waterproof cam.

3. The uh... Hot sensations. The actual band is 4 girls who sing at the lounge every night.
4. Chilling out at the recreation room while waiting for the Ferry of horror to bring us back to Kuala Terengganu.
5. We made it in one piece! After that was the 11 hour (including breaks for lunch and dinner) bus ride to KL. Not many pics after this. Everyone was dead tired.


Great trip and great memories though...hehe
