Coffee, tea and me

I just made my first cup of non instant coffee. 24 years of living and this is my first time. Well as some of you guys know I'm not a coffee drinker. I prefer Milo, Ovaltine, Vico or any other sweet drink to coffee. I was driven to this because I forgot to bring my breakfast once again, and all the food in my drawer has expired. Even the tea has expired. Sigh...

Yesterday I made 3 in 1 coffee because I ran out of ovaltine. Today there was nothing left so I gingerly made my way to the kitchen, and stared at all the bottles and tins of what not on top of the fridge. Hence began a legendary moment in my life. Making my first coffee.

Ok, the black stuff in one of the containers should be the coffee. Hmm..there is no spoon in the container. The spoon in my cup is wet coz I just washed it. Ok I shall attempt to tip a bit of the coffee powder into my cup.... Arghhh... too much! Spoons half the powder into the dustbin. Ok, now what else do they have... hmm creamer... how much to put? Cincai la put 1 spoon. Sugar...er... 1 spoon la. Add hot water and stir. Erm... the coffee looks too dark... ok add a bit more creamer. Take a sip... Bleah.. a bit bitter... adds more sugar. Takes another sip.... too sweet liao :S Ok, pour 1/4 of the coffee into the sink, and add in more hot water. Ok, cincai la, that should do.

Ok, so it tastes kinda diluted now. Well nevermind, too much coffee would give me a headache anyway. Guess this will at least allow me to last till lunchtime.

...and a Happy New Year !

Somehow it seems that 2006 has fizzled away pretty fast.... I guess its probably because each year passs away faster than the previous year, since we are getting older have gone through a number of new years. Someone asked me, what useful things have I accomplished or learned in the previous year. Well after much thought, I came up with a list...

10. Early last year I said, "Dad, can I please keep 2 gerbils?" Today I have 13. As well as 2 mice and 1 betta fish.
9. I learned that touch and go lane signboards can flip
8. I learned that to some people, its less risky to dash out of and stop a moving car and stop it with your bare hands than to reach over and pull the handbrake.
7. If you reverse really really slowly while parking, even if u hit the car behind you lightly, it wont leave a single mark.
6. I know never again to go to Connaught pasar malam after 7.30 p.m.
5. Having a nice warm drink half an hour before going home is a really bad idea, especially if its raining and likely to be congested on the roads.
4. Never start reading a good book or fanfiction when its almost time to sleep, thinking that "I will just read this for 5 minutes before calling it a day."
3. It is actually possible to read and finish entire books in the KL jam.
2. Its almost impossible to drop hints to certain people.
1. I learned how to park in One Utama and how to go home from there.

Well there you go. As for how I spent the first day of the year, it was in a car with some of my dear friends and my sisters, heading toward an unknown place with a map that looks like the illustration of an experiment we did back in high school with gas bromin to test the movement of gas molecules. There were random arrows all over the map.... and no roads... apparently a "small" printing error whereby Alvin's printer refused to print out the road outlines.

Behold an excerpt of the conversation in the car.

CY the navigator: *Ring ring...... "Hello Doris? We seem to be lost"
Doris the hostess: "Where are you now?"
CY: "Aman Suria."
Doris: "Uh...I have no idea where is that. You all know where is Tropicana?"
* Can hear her hubby giving instructions in the background
CY: Uh.... thats the problem
Me the passenger: This is gonna be a long journey.
CN the other passenger : Just now we should have turned at bla bla bla
Alvin the driver: *Takes deep breath "Think Happy thoughts..think happy thoughts........."

Much much later, we managed to find the place, no thanks to me of course, since you all know how good I am with roads. We had a nice chat though, good to catch up with old friends and old times.

Heres a pic of something interesting Doris let us play with at her house... Wood puzzles from Bali. there were a few all them, all looking deceptively simple, but even great Alvin the enginner could not solve these puzzles. Well, neither could any of us...hahaha
