Hmm interesting...
Just to post up a pic of something we saw at the Shah Alam Museum. We were like ..eh... didn't know they wore this type of undies in the past. What powers could the special undies hold?
1. Maybe it wards off evil. Hmm... like maybe the person wearing it in the past would drop his sarung or something if he encounters pontianak. Then the pontianak will flee at seeing the words on the undies.
2. Remind the wearer to be religious. Every time he sees the words on his undies when going to the toilet or changing his clothes or even ahem... taking off his clothes for "other" reasons, he is reminded not to do any "naugthy" stuff.
3. Its just the "In" thing during that time to have such a name on your unidies, like how kids have power rangers shorts and underwear nowadays.
4. It empowers whoever that wears that underwear to be..ahem...."strong" and "powerful" in that region.
Well seriously I have no clue why they would put Allahs name on undies. I mean its not like I'm making fun of their religion or anything, after all its posted up publicly in a public museum after all, so it must be something thats acceptable. Do enlighten me if any of you know the true function of this ancient piece of clothing.
The arrow shows whats written on the sign. I'm not kidding..Go here for a larger and clearer picture.

Allah Underwear? Does it make man's joystick "more Allah"? :P
LOL! Yeah, I remember those undies alright. However, the undies weren't the only piece of clothing there with that word. But I'm wondering, if that is the case, can they just print the holy word on ANY piece of garment they can get their hands on, and then put it on display at the museum? Just what is the historical value?
Yes, well I guess we wont know unless any "expert" on this issue happens to see my post. Maybe its something no one does anymore, hence its a thing of history and has a place at the museum. Like those pontianak stuff we saw
Didn't you ask the ppl in the museum what all these means?
I'm sure there's an explaination on this... it'll be good to learn something here.
The lady satffs were busy chatting at a nother section, no staff at the place we saw the undies. Actually the museum only got us... only saw very few other visitors, haha
that post is at the section where they display all the mockings of Islam in the sense of printing quotes from the Al Quran or Allah in the most unsuitable places, like the said underwear. please, if you really don't mean to insult, at least show the whole story, or the whole picture.
in fact, if I'm not mistaken, if you had tilted your head upwards a bit, there's the section name, saying what it's showing.
I dont think we saw any other printings aside from the label. Thats why we were all so puzzled by the display and took a pic of it. What you say makes sence though, otherwsie I have no clue why this would be in a museum. Perhaps if I get another chance to go there I'll look out for the section name.
ahh.. maybe lizzam can explain for for us?? cos i really want to know wat is it.. hehhe..
hhmm... still if those are just mockings, why didn't they provide some better explanations. perhaps here's where the museum can improve itself.
The thing is, WHY place items which are "mockings" of a religion in a museum?
Yeah, we might have missed the sign since the museum was under renovation at that time, so things weren't really in place.
"please, if you really don't mean to insult, at least show the whole story, or the whole picture."
well, what Lizzam said is true in someway. Pun did not describe detailed enough.
and Pun, the "enlarged" isn't enlarged at all. And the hyperlink isn't fixed yet.
Eng, I'm detailed adi, coz what I put in the pic was everything we saw. As Steffi said, maybe the sign was not there anymore bcoz of the renovation. Having problems with the hyperlink though, wonder whats up with blogger. :p Just ignore it la
"maybe lizzam can explain for for us"
can't say there's anything more to explain, besides that those are designs based on arabic caligraphy or khat.however, should they take any sentence from the Quran, or any of the Prophet's name, or Allah's name (there are 99 other names), and that will be a mocking of Islam.
the only apparels alllowed to have these symbols are those meant for prayers
sorry to be so serious in this matter, since you may meant good. It is, however, a serious matter.but hey, no harm done.
thanks to lizzam for clearing the confusion..
and hey i think pun did us all a favour by educating us on tat..next time we see it again, we'll know wat it means n we can share this piece of infor to those who dont know..;)
like lizzam said..no harm done..:)
